Today, we're talking to one of our owners, Caleb to hear about his family and how parenthood has changed and challenged him! Let's dive in!

Hi, Caleb! Tell us a little about your family!

My wife, Courtney, and I have 3 kids full of energy: Veya is 6, Huxley is 8, and Tennyson is 10. Having children close in age has been an amazing blessing as they love to playexplore, and create together daily!

How has life changed since becoming a parent?

The second you become responsible for someone other than yourself, you begin a journey of intense sacrifice followed by unimaginable love. I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world. You can only find out what you actually believe, rather than what you think you believe, by watching how you act. My children are my mirror, and it is humbling.

What is your favorite part about being a dad?

Hands down... playing hard. I love showing my kids what it looks like to work hard and then when the work is done to play and laugh. Being present is not enough, you have to get down and run, roll, and have fun.

What has been challenging for you about being a parent?

Jordan B. Peterson said that, “It is far better to render Beings in your care competent than to protect them”.  Finding that balance is tough. I have to push myself daily to raise children that are strong and not just safe. I have to take time to figure out if I should give justice or mercy, (I want to be remembered for mercy). I have to teach my kids how to believe, not what to believe. For me, the second half of life has taught me to think less dualistically. A fundamental shift from using either/or to using both/and.

Just for fun— tell us your favorite dad joke!

I pray to be humiliated at least one time each day and my kids have no problem helping me with that... so maybe I am the dad joke.
