About the campaign
In January 2017, I had the privilege to travel to Amor Village in rural Uganda. My life was transformed after meeting the wonderful women of Pearl Community Empowerment Foundation and experiencing firsthand the power of community and love.
Founder Beatrice Nas Achieng, and her sister Josephine Apio grew up in Amor Village only to return to their community and empower them to work together and create sustainable means for change through education, farming, and outreach. Their personal experiences growing up in a poor rural village and the difficulties they encountered while trying to complete their own education prompted them to establish the PCE Foundation.
Beatrice believes that everyone has the potential to live a better life if given the opportunity and access to a good education. PCE has set up the Portland Nursery and Primary School & Sponsorship Program, the Rural Girl Child Mentorship program, school and community sensitization programs, sustainable farming and agricultural techniques and gardens, and an international mentor outreach program for Amor Village.
PCE is currently working to raise the funds to complete an ongoing construction project to provide Amor Village with a library and community center that will bring the community together and give students a place to collaborate and do research. The library will serve generations of students, teachers, and tutors from over 48 schools. The meeting hall will allow parents, community leaders and school representatives to meet to discuss and resolve important community issues, including girls’ education, farming initiatives, health issues, parenting, micro-finance, and more. The facility will also provide a location to hold training workshops and facilitate research.
Meeting Beatrice and Josephine and their community changed my life forever and gave meaning to my life that I will continue to cherish for years to come. They taught me the gift of EMPOWERMENT. I hope this campaign can help support their dreams of completing the Amor Village Library and Community Center and these strong women as they continue to empower so many women and children in need of love, inspiration and encouragement. Purchase an Empower bracelet or mug and connect to the many Ugandans in Amor Village through the shared human need of love and support. We all are strengthened through our call to empower each other. Help spread their love. Thank you!
